Synopsis
Cynthia Purley works in a factory and lives with her daughter Roxanne, a street maintenance worker, in an old house in a working-class neighborhood. The two women constantly argue, and Cynthia drowns her sorrow in alcohol, fleeing a life that has never given her any breaks. She had to raise her brother Maurice alone before becoming pregnant with a little Elizabeth, who was abandoned after birth and adopted by others. She shares this secret only with her brother. Today, he, married to Monica, is thriving in his photography studio and neglects his sister. The return of Elizabeth, now known as Hortense and searching for her real mother, will shake the family structure, trapped by its silences and prejudices…
