Synopsis
Par solidarité en ce début de guerre, Marie, mère de famille d'une trentaine d'années, va aider sa voisine à se débarrasser d'un fardeau non désiré. Bientôt c'est l'engrenage. Les raisons ne manquent pas en ces temps difficiles : maris prisonniers, passades amoureuses ou liaisons coupables avec l'occupant, petit à petit, les 'services' de Marie se rétribueront et deviendront son gagne-pain. son mari, démobilisé, mais qu'une blessure de guerre a affaibli, suit avec étonnement la soudaine aisance du ménage. Encouragée par le succès de son 'entreprise', Marie améliore encore sa vie quotidienne et celle de sa famille en louant des chambres à des prostituées. Dans la France en guerre, on dénonce. Mais dénoncer sous Vichy, c'est assassiner aussi sûrement qu'avec un fusil. La France de Vichy, celle de la Famille, ne lui pardonnera pas et fera d'elle un exemple. En juin 1943 Marie, la 'faiseuse d'anges' est condamnée à mort par un tribunal d'exception. Le 31 juillet, le couperet de la guillotine s'abat sur une des toutes dernières femmes éxécutées en France.CLAUDE CHABROL
