Synopsis
Avril 1937. Anton, un agent à la solde de l’URSS, chargé de faire passer des armes en Espagne, est capturé par la Gestapo. Torturé, il ne lâche aucun nom. Il est bientôt échangé, en compagnie d’un certain Müller, contre un agent allemand. Mais Müller est un agent double et Léo, l’ami d’Anton qui a recueilli les deux hommes, est contraint de l’éliminer. Léo fournit une nouvelle couverture à Anton, un emploi dans l’import-export à Marseille. Le trafic d’armes en direction de l’Espagne reprend. Toutefois, Anton est de plus en plus réticent à exécuter les ordres du Parti. Il se confie à Anna, la secrétaire, fille de militants communistes…Produit par mk2 et Marin Karmitz, L’Ombre Rouge détonne tant par son casting : Claude Brasseur partage l’écran avec Jacques Dutronc et Nathalie Baye que par son sujet : le stalinisme d’avant la seconde guerre mondiale, rare dans le paysage cinématographique français. Jean-Louis Comolli, qui a depuis démontré sa capacité à interroger en profondeur les liens entre histoire et cinéma, confronte ici l’utopie révolutionnaire et la violence implacable des structures politiques de l’époque. Un film dont l’exigence formelle sert la complexité du récit, puisant dans la tradition des grands romans russes mais aussi du côté des premiers cinéastes politiques (Fritz Lang, Costa-Gavras…).JEAN-LOUIS COMOLLI
