Synopsis
Au cours d’un printemps pluvieux, une femme de presque 40 ans, Mary-Jane (Jane Birkin), tombe amoureuse ou plutôt glisse amoureuse d’un garçon de presque 15 ans, Julien (Mathieu Demy), camarade de classe de sa fille Lucy (Charlotte Gainsbourg).Lui, essaie de faire partager à Mary-Jane sa passion pour les jeux vidéo, surtout pour Kung-Fu Master, un jeu où un karatéka sautillant doit supprimer tous ses adversaires pour délivrer “Sylvia”.
Ce sujet sensible est au départ une idée de Jane Birkin, dont Agnès Varda s’empare pour traiter de cette « relation » impossible. Grâce à un œil lucide et sans jugement, qui caractérise bien la réalisatrice, elle réussit à désamorcer la dimension scandaleuse et donne à ce destin de femme complexité et mystère.
Un film abordé comme un projet familial puisque Jane Birkin, à la fragilité touchante, y joue avec ses deux filles Charlotte Gainsbourg et Lou Doillon, dans sa propre maison, allant même jusqu’à Londres chez ses propres parents. Agnès Varda, quant à elle, a confié à son fils Mathieu Demy le rôle du garçon.
