Bad kids
A bad boy, a rascal, is never simply a minor threat to be corrected: he is often a child of disorder, a human being learning about the world by bumping up against it. Turbulence becomes a language, a clumsy way of demanding love, space, a form of justice.
These films remind us that behind the insolence, the flight or the apparent foolishness, there is an intelligence in the process of being born, a sensibility that does not yet know how to defend itself any other way. Cinema then illuminates what morality judges too hastily: the bad boy is not a failure, but a beginning.
